More Then Meets The Eye (Chapter 5)

You can do this I chant repeatedly in my head. I mean, it is just dancing, survive the night and everything will be okay.
I take a deep breath before opening the door into the ball room that is already filled with all types of creatures. I step in and let the door close softly behind me. As soon as the door clicks closed everyones eyes are on me. I feel my ears starting to burn from all the attention. I turn my gaze to the floor shyly.
“There you are.” Alex says as he comes up beside me giving me a smile. Everyone turns back to there conversations as I blink at him looking him over. So now he has horns, pointed ears, black eyes and fangs? And I thought he couldn’t get any weirder…
“Er…it’s not really nice to stare you know…” he says turning his gaze to the floor. My eyes widen as blush laces my cheeks.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. Your just-” I trail off.
“Well. This is how I always look…here at least. If I looked like this when I was in the InBetween people would be scared don’t you think?” he asks smiling. Well…if I saw him like this in my room I’d-yea…its probably a good idea that he doesn’t look like this when he goes to my world.
“Didn’t think so.” he laughs quietly offering his arm, I place my hand on his arm.
“Serenity!!!!!” Destiny yells fighting her way through the crowd to where I am. I look at what she’s wearing and smile. She picked a pink dress with layers of lace coming out from under a black satin ribbon that tied around her wait into a bow in the back. She pulled her long brown hair into a side bun with strands hanging down and a large black flower covering most of the bun.
“You ready to dance?!” she yells excitedly, ignoring the people around her.
“Dance?! Destiny I don’t-” I try to explain.
“Great!” she says happily as she pulls me through the crowd, I tighten my grip on Alex’s arm, dragging him with me.
Destiny let’s go of my arm in the middle of the room. Backing away into the crowd. I look around noticing that everyone is staring at me waiting for me to do something. My throat goes dry. And this is why I don’t do acting. Alex clears his throat quietly before bowing, offering me a hand. I lightly place my hand in his as he straightens up. Putting a hand on my wait he pulls me closer and laughs quietly as I blush.
“Jerk.” I grumble under my breath.
“This ‘jerk’ is saving you. Just follow me.” he says as he leads me into a waltz. I follow his foot steps until I get the hang of it. I laugh as we spin and start over. Damien and Destiny twirl their way onto the dance floor and join us in the spotlight. The music becomes quiet before being pulled into a crescendo and echoing through out the room. Couple after couple join in on the dance. I look up at Alex only to find him looking at me.
“What…?” I ask.
“Your-nevermind.” he says before twirling me.
“Thats a terrible answer.” I laugh at the look he gives me.
“You give terrible answers all the time.” he shoots back. I raise an eyebrow at him. Darn. He’s rubbing off on me.
“I-” before I can even start the music stops and partners change for the next song. I’m pulled away from Alex into someone else’s arms.
“Well hello again princess.” Vince laughs. I smile up at him.
“Hi Vince.” I say back before he leads me in an upbeat dance.
I glance at Alex to see him giving Vince a death glare.
“How are you enjoying your party, princess?” Vince asks.
“My party…?” I ask confused.
“Well yes, that’s why no one was dancing when you got here, you have to start the first dance.” he explains. Ah…thats a good reason for everyone staring at me…
“It’s great.” I say smiling up at him. I cringe when a glass bottle hits the floor and red pools out between the pieces of glass shards. Screams echo through the great room. I scan the room trying to find whats going on. My eyes zero in on the gold light coming from one person near the window. Vince pulls me closer before kicking my legs out from under me and bringing me up in a bridal style carry. Alex is hovering next to him, his eyes on the angel.
Destiny is holding a sword and Damien is twirling a giant scythe following Destiny towards to angel.
The angel locks eyes with me, and grins evilly. I squirm in Vince’s arms trying to break free so I can run. He only tightens his grip before looking back at Alex. Alex nods and smiles at me before running straight for the angel. My eyes widen as I watch, I try to reach for him.
“Alex!” I try to scream only to have Vince’s lips on mine. My eyes widen as I try to push him away. Vince pulls away giving me a sad look.
“Sorry princess…” he says as my eyes start to feel heavy. What did he do…? My eyes close.
I hear Destiny scream and Damien yells to her. People run past out the doors. I open my eyes to see only a blurry outline of Alex jumping on the angel only to be hit with the sword. The angels sword slices through his skin and blood drips onto the ground.
Destiny is laying in a puddle of her own blood. Damien is in front of her trying to protect her. My eyes close and I pull what energy I have left into finding there emotions.
“Don’t Serenity.” Vince says as he holds me.
I ignore him as I pull Destiny, Damien’s and Alex’s emotions away from them.

“I feel your pain
Miles away
Hurting my heart
Don’t fly away

Come close to me
I’ll try to tame
The pain you feel
Never the same

Pain be gone
Strength come here
Replace this deep fear
Let it be done

Heal your pain
Take it away
Away from me
Away from you

It was said
So let it be”

I scream as I am ambushed with Destiny’s and Alex’s pain. I try to fight back but it’s to much. I feel like I’m being pulled under. I close my eyes and let the pain pull me in.
